Question: 22's on my Charger?

Question: 22's on my Charger?

Postby rfinglet » Wed Dec 23, 2009 12:11 am

Hello Lxomi members....

One of my next mods this spring is to upgrade the wheels on my R/T from the stock 18" version which are now set up with snow tires. I would like to install 22x9's all the way around. I have stock suspension and am wondering if anyone else has had any issues with the tires hitting the fenders Front or Rear?
If possible I'd like to go 22x10 in the rear but that may be a long shot.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Appreciate your input.

Thanks, Randy

I love the way the rims look! Those are sweet.

Personally I won't take the performace hit to put them on.

I would just be concerned about making the ride too stiff. When you go to a 22" wheel, you are taking any cushion that the tire gives out of the equation. I dont know what the roads are like where you live but 22's in the metro detroit area would not survive. The pot holes would tear them up.

Good luck with the decision.

22's ride just fine I think...that's what I have on my Charger.

As far as clearance issues...those Vipers may cause an issue on the front. They have the offset for an SRT. All it will take is a spacer. The wheels on my car have this, only when a sharp left turn (like in a parking lot, not driving) you can hear it rub on something - but I haven't figured out where.

The bolt pattern is 5x115mm and offset = +18. Is this what your running with your wheels?

How does she ride with the 22's? Did you previously have 20's?

It rides worse with the 22's but it doesn't ride badly. I run the stock SRT 20's in the winter. I'll sacrifice a little bit of ride difference for the looks any day.

Those are my favorite wheels ...

Good luck with your decision, lots of discussions on the boards regarding 20's vs 22's.

For me personally, I would go with the 20's for three reasons:

1. Less of a performance hit
2. Crappy roads and wheel damage
3. I could use my current tires

You have some excellent points to consider. If I went with 20's I think I'd have to lower it a bit to eliminate some of the gap. See pic below with 20's

Good point about the gap in the picture ... unfortunately my SRT front sits too low as it is. I can't imagine making it worse!

My thoughts exactly....

rflinglet, remember my Bee? I have 20x10 with 305's and they will not clear but these are with the SRT offset which I think is only 3mm diff. If you stay with a .... I'll say 295 or smaller REARS with the R/T offset you should be fine unless you do not want staggered.

I'd still give FR a call to ensure proper fitment. Should look AWESOME!!!

good luck

Ya I remember your car vividly  Sweet machine.... Thanks for your feedback. I did get initial feedback from Factory Reproductions. They say that if I go with 265/35/22 in the front and stagger with 295/30/22 in the rear there will be no clearance issues on the standard R/T. While I would like to trust them, I wanted to reach out to see if anyone else had any issues with a similar setup. Their return policy is once you installed them you own them. Thats a loto cash to waste if they dont fit properly.
